Keegan’s Priorities

Learn about Keegan’s top priorities.

Education

  • No child, teacher, administrator, or support staff in a school should ever have to fear for their wellbeing. Unfortunately, the world we live in requires us to prepare for the worst. This preparation should include:

-Making our classrooms a safer place to include bullet proof glass in classroom doors, deadbolt locks on the inside of doors, and emergency escape windows.

-Stipends for teachers willing to train in emergency situations

  • To reduce inequalities in our education system, we need to provide Speech Pathologists, ESL teachers, and Immersion Teachers in every school; kids need to see these people every day in their building.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic exposed how dire the mental health crisis is for our young people.

We must continue to increase the number of school-based mental health professionals in school buildings and provide educators with the tools to identify risk signs in students.

Inland Bays

  • Our inland bays have become dangerous as a result of sand and silt content and low depths.

That’s why we need to make dredging our bays a top priority to ensure our residents and tourists can safely enjoy our beautiful waterways.

  • Our inland bays play a vital role in our economy, our environment, and our quality of life. We must continue to foster productive public-private partnerships to protect our bays, marshes, wetlands, and tributaries.

Health Care

  • As more and more families make the decision to call eastern Sussex County home, our medical facilities are becoming increasingly overburdened; leading to longer wait times, less accessible medical professionals, and difficulty navigating the healthcare system.

  • To ensure that our medical infrastructure grows with our community, we need to incentivize health care professionals to live and practice in Sussex County.

Managing Overdevelopment

  • “Slower Lower Delaware” has not been slow for some time now. We must carefully manage the rapid development of our area before it erodes the quality of life we all enjoy.

  • Every resident deserves to live in a safe and healthy environment. There is no question that the rapid development of our area has contributed significantly to air pollution and the degradation of our natural environment.

I’m committed to pursuing policies that will lead to greener and more sustainable development.

Housing

  • Home is a place where we want to feel secure and comfortable. Many of our community’s residents face the problem of owning their home, but not the land beneath it in manufactured homes. When these leasing rates increase to unaffordable measures, our friends and families in these homes face eviction and repossession.

  • Addressing the housing affordability crisis is a priority for Keegan. Creating and sustaining affordable housing resources and programs is essential to help working families and the economy thrive.

Supporting Seniors

  • The seniors who call our district home deserve to retire in economic dignity. I am committed to supporting measures that will keep the cost of living manageable for our seniors.

  • The current school tax exemption for seniors states seniors must have lived in Delaware for at least ten years to qualify; I believe that this is too long for seniors to not feel the weight of our school taxes.

  • I will work closely with legislators to find cost effective medicines and decrease the financial burden of daily prescriptions on our seniors.

  • Three years ago, my grandmother died of complications of Alzheimer’s. I found out my mother would start a battle with breast cancer the day I left for college. I am no stranger to debilitating disease and sympathize with those who deal with chronic health problems. The last things that you want to think about in this process are finances and bureaucratic red tape. I will work to make this paperwork process easier on you and your loved ones.
